Microsoft's pioneering multi-agent conversation framework, now in maintenance mode.
Microsoft AutoGen entered maintenance mode on 2 October 2025: it receives only bug and security fixes with no new features, and Microsoft directs new projects to Microsoft Agent Framework, which reached 1.0 GA in April 2026; the community fork AG2 continues independently under Apache-2.0.
Caveat: Maintenance mode since October 2025 — no new features. Not a starting point for new projects.
