The official MCP Registry, live at registry.modelcontextprotocol.io since its preview on 8 September 2025, is a metaregistry that stores server.json metadata rather than code; it validates namespace ownership via reverse-DNS or GitHub OIDC and exposes a REST API such as GET /v0/servers.
Caveat: GitHub reports the repository license as NOASSERTION; the exact SPDX license could not be confirmed at verification time.
